The Crux is the center of mind control technology, powered by a mooncrystal at its center. It projects an interactive web of minds that can be manually manipulated.
In the center stood a large computer bank, mostly constructed of glowing screens and black glass. A dark web of interlocking lines seemed to float around it, its vast network filling the entirety of the room, with small particles of what appeared to be data flowing between.
Ash stepped forward, gazing at the black web suspended in midair before her, and reached out to touch it. To her surprise, her fingers grasped onto a thin strand of the network, and she saw a rain of data traveling to her fingertips. ... In the center, where the computer bank stood, a singular point hovered from which all the other webs branched out. Ash reached forward, and took hold of it.
Immediately, she felt a surge of power pass through her. A massive overload of data, feelings, and thoughts flooded through her mind. ... [Jander Morsen] strode toward the computer bank and placed his palm on one of the screens. A hissing noise emanated from the machine, and the bank slid apart, one half sinking slightly into the floor. Suspended in the center of the gap was a massive orb pulsating with turquoise energy. Metal parts covered its exterior, and complex circuitry was embedded in its surface. A surge of energy passed through the black web hovering around them.
“This is the core of the Sovereign’s empire,” Jander breathed. “This is the center of his control, the device that powers this entire system.” His eyes drifted to Ash, and she saw an agonizing conflict in his gaze. “You… must destroy it.” He exhaled, and nodded resolutely. “This is the only way to end the control.”
