Refugee Cave
The refugee cave is an underwater cave beneath the Arcis lighthouse occupied by the refugees.
Before her was a cave the size of an aircraft hangar. Every single inch of it was covered in sagging tents, stacked boxes of food and supplies, makeshift beds, and crude structures, all connected by wires, clotheslines, and thin bridges. Countless stalactites hung from the rock ceiling of the underwater cave, and flickering lanterns were suspended from the bigger ones.
It was truly incredible. A maze of leaning structures, handmade tents, and storage areas covered the entire cave, built upon the rock walls and floor and touching the ceiling. An entire community built under the surface of the ocean, with enough space to store food for dozens of people.
As Ash stared around in wonder at the tiny, scrappily built city, she saw people. They bore signs of past injury, and their clothes were patched-up rags. They passed between structures, gathering supplies and food, repairing tears in weathered tents, or fixing broken lanterns. Some were asleep in ragged sleeping bags, strewn across the wet, hard ground of the cave, or in tents.
