The Nightmare Ages (2275–2308) was a period of anarchy and war that began shortly after most of Earth's surface became uninhabitable.

The earth had been flooded and destroyed over centuries. Sea levels rose and covered vast amounts of land in water, driving refugees inland and straining resources. Earth seemed more like a world of death and destruction than a place where life and growth thrived.

After war, famine, and catastrophe after catastrophe, after most of the world’s governments had collapsed, the dwindling population was plunged into a period of anarchy, rioting, and war, called the Nightmare Ages.
