Jimmy Solomon is a doorman at Roseman Towers, where the Clark family lives.

We stepped out into the hall of our apartment building. Jimmy, our porter, stood outside. As I passed him, we did our secret handshake. He smiled and high-fived me.

Our porter was carrying luggage toward the stairs. “Hey, Jimmy!” I called after him.

He turned around and saw me. “Morning, Sierra!”

“What are you doing?” I asked him, rubbing my eyes.

“Just packin’ up your bags for the trip!” he answered cheerfully. “You’re leaving today, remember?”

“Do you know where we’re going?”

“Sorry, but your parents didn’t tell me,” Jimmy answered. “I think it’s a surprise.”
